He wasn't wearing any protective gear and regularly when 40kph

You wouldn't get on a moped without a helmet, I don't understand why this poor guy thought he wouldn't need a helmet on a moterised skateboard.

Please wear your helmets guys at all times, as you never know!

Agreed

There's no reason for not wearing a helmet, unless your a complete fool and don't care about the other people in your life. Sure you might think wearing a helmet makes me less attractive to the opposite sex, but think about how appealing you'll be to the opposite sex when your drooling all over yourself and your wheelchair.

THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS "I USED TO SK8"

u might have to wear a helmet in that wheelchair aswell!

but in all honesty helmets are cool. just gotta put a lot of stickers on it :P

but yea helemts are cool guys dont ride witout one, if you dont and fall off when you needed it im not carrying you to A&E

This is really sad

The guy was 41, he might of had kids :(

Weird coincidence, I went into Cheapskates in Cuba St that same day and tried their electric skateboard in the shop and we were talking about that guy in Nelson who died on the petrol powered board. I only tried it in the shop for about 3 seconds, so I can't say much about how it handles, but I reckon that it should definately come with a gigantic warning label (bad for marketing, but they should be forced to comply) Having the remote control speed/braking gun may make you feel as though you are in complete control which may be why people take risks with it. It's not like a skateboard, bloody heavy for one thing (22 kilos) and also the stearing is much more rigid.

Basically I can compare it to going from a bicycle to a motorcycle. If you have never ridden a motorcycle before, would you ride one without a helmet? At least with a motorcycle you're sitting down, and have a lower center of gravity and greater stability. I don't think I could ride on of these down a hill ever unless I was going really slow, because factoring in gravity that makes for a much more forceful impact. People definately need to be educated on the dangers of motorized skateboards, plus the importance of helmets.

R.I.P to this guy
